As they head into their 20th season of The Block, which premiered this week, host Scott Cam reveals he was discovered by a television producer when he was sitting in a pub.

According to Cam, the producer was scouting for carpenters to host a new show called Backyard Blitz, and approached Cam after noticing him sitting at the bar with a beer, “I had the ute out the front and the dog”. After he rejected the offer, the producer called Cam the next day using information from his car signage, and organised a screen test. The rest was history.

Cam has been hosting The Block for 18 seasons, and speaks to The Pick Up‘s Britt, Laura, and Mitch about the transformation of the show over time. Particularly, how the attitudes of contestants have changed since the beginning of the show.
